This dynamic 3-hour training session introduces therapists to the emerging world of generative AI and its applications in therapeutic practice. Participants will explore the fundamentals of generative AI technology and its potential to enhance various aspects of your play therapy practice. The course covers practical applications in administrative tasks, treatment planning, therapeutic image generation, and narrative creation.

Generative AI can significantly enhance a play therapist's offerings by effectively engaging clients of all ages, but particularly digital natives. Using generative AI therapeutically allows for personalization and customization, helping clients identify and represent their emotions and experiences through AI-generated images and narratives. This technology also supports important projective prompt generation, providing a window into a client's worldview, experiences, preferences, dislikes, and visual representations. By analyzing how clients accept or reject various generated content, therapists can gain deeper insights into their clients' inner worlds and tailor therapeutic interactions more dynamically and precisely to each client's needs.

Through a blend of informative presentations, live demonstrations, and interactive exercises, attendees will gain hands-on experience with AI tools and explore their potential to augment therapeutic processes. Special emphasis is placed on ethical considerations and best practices, ensuring responsible and effective integration of AI in mental health settings.

Learning Objectives

After completing this training, participants will be able to:

  • Define generative AI and identify at least three potential applications in therapeutic practice.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use a basic AI tool for administrative tasks such as drafting client communications or treatment plans.
  • Analyze the ethical implications of integrating AI into therapy, including issues of privacy, informed consent, and the limitations of AI-generated content.
  • Apply generative AI techniques to create therapeutic imagery or narratives that can enhance client engagement and self-expression in therapy sessions.
