Play Therapy Symposium AU

Applying Special Topics to the Play Therapy Dimensions Model:
Practical Applications for Play Therapists

First Annual Play Therapy Symposium In Sydney, Australia

Feb 26 & 27, 2027

Location: School of Arts, 162, Liverpool Road, Ashfield NSW

Join Dr. Lorri Yasenik and Colleagues in a detailed use of the Play Therapy Dimensions Model Diagram to conceptualize different presenting problems. Join in the exploration and deepen your conceptualization skills. What decisions do Play Therapists make in the course of their work with children and youth? When do you become more directive and how do you decide when to shift how you are working with a child? Is one way of working better than another? Is the field still contemplating the tension of directive vs non-directive intervention(s)? How do you identify where the therapeutic powers of play fit in your decision-making when using the Play Therapy Dimensions Diagram?

This one-and-a-half-day focus on special topics will answer many practice questions and demonstrate how to follow the needs of the child as a primary consideration in therapist use of self. Following what a child needs is not always about following the child’s lead. Participants will explore a range of clinical areas including clinical decision-making, play development, medical trauma, group play therapy, and separation and divorce. This is not only an opportunity to relate to your current practice, it is also an invitation for attendees to engage with one another in thought provoking group discussions intended to increase critical thinking and forward the practice of play therapy.

Expand your case conceptualization skills and explore the following special topics:

  • Decision-making and Therapeutic Powers of Play
  • Play Development
  • Medical Trauma
  • Group Play Therapy
  • Separation and Divorce
