So You Have to Go to Court for Play Therapists

You may never have to go to Court. You may never want to go to Court, but if you work in the areas of child abuse, children of separation and divorce, or during your play therapy treatment a child discloses abuse, you may be called upon to provide information to third parties and the Court. This program follows after the “Be Prepared: Processes, and Procedures for Play Therapists” course. Join in as you learn about what to do from the first contact with the legal system to qualifying as an expert witness.

During the course you will follow a case example that begins as a child therapy case and moves into a case of parental separation. You will have the opportunity to see inside the Court Room and watch as a play therapist gets sworn in as an expert witness.

The day will reflect on the following:

  • General rules for testifying
  • Preparing your Curriculum Vitae
  • Preparing your files
  • Levels of Court
  • Roles of those in Court
  • Role of an Expert Witness
  • Rules of Court
  • Types of Evidence
  • Forms of Bias

Feature Video Presentation

The course features a court room demonstration featuring Play Therapist Carolyn Lynch, Family Law Lawyers ,Amanda Baretta and Danielle Collins, Court Reporter (lawyer actor) Krysta Ostwald and Justice Sherry Kachur. These professionals provide a King’s Bench Court room simulation of what it would be like for you to be in Court.
